I have a persistent fuel leak around the top of one of the injectors on my Bukh 20.

After having the injectors serviced the leak is still there and I have discovered that the leak appears to be from the nut on the high pressure supply pipe to the injector from the pump.

The pipe appears to be made of steel and the price from Bukh is a prohibitive £80 per injector.

On the face of it it appears no more complex than a brake pipe of a car which were easily obtained although the ends may be unique to Bukh.

Anyone know if they can be bought elsewhere at a more realistic price.

Fuel leak

Same problem developed on my previous boat but I think it was at the injector end (one nearest the fly-wheel).

Tightening, lapping with grinding paste etc. (with care to keep out of pipe & injector) all failed. It was many years ago and I seem to to remember that BUKH specialist told me that it was due to a crack in the small ferrule just above the belled end on the pipe.

Fortunately I found some spare pipes on some BUKH engines at my local boatyard. I think that I bought pipes from 2 engines for £10 or thereabouts and used one to solve the problem.

Can't remember what happened to the spares but they might still be in the garage. I'll check tomorrow. I'd forgotten all about them until now otherwise I'd have passed them to the new owner.

You are welcome to have them if they are still there. However, I can't vouch for condition i.e. One might be damaged pipe I removed and any others will not have been checked as they weren't used. Still worth trying as it is simple to swap a pipe over.

My enging was a DV20 (I might also still have the full workshop manual somewhere if that helps).

N.B. Another point came to mind. The BUKH guy told me to make certain that I replaced the pipe clamps. He said that people often left them off and vibration caused pipes to fracture or start dripping again.

Thanks Mistroma for your offers. I appreciate them.

The potted history is that about 5 years ago the supply to the injector nearest to the flywheel (like yourself) sprung a leak on passage. I managed to obtain a pair of used pipes in Howth when I arrived which was very fortunate. A similar problem, although less dramatic, has now occurred and I was hoping that it was possible to have them manufactured (a la brake pipes) As this does not appear to be a starter I have bit the bullet and ordered new ones from Bukh today.

I can't face the leak for another season.

I already have the Bukh manual but I thank you for your kind offer.

After Xmas I think a new temperature guage will be the next purchase.
