Bude RNLI crew stops runaway boat

What did they do with the rope to stop it? Just throw into the path of the props?

The engine was still running when it was stopped (you can see the cooling water running) so did it just go into neutral when tangled?

I wonder if it was a jet, because an RNLI man mentions that earlier on, so maybe it got sucked into the intake and slowed the boat. The outboard could be a backup.

At least they sorted it out but we all know that the French lifeboat people would have done it quicker/cheaper/more efficiently etc etc..........

Looked to me like they tried that with various bits of rope and gear, without success. Then instead they simply caught up with it and put a man aboard at speed. Good driving!

He said that while passing some line to an RNLI beach-rescue jetski. I assume he was just warning them not to get it sucked into their own jet. Pretty sure the 80hp outboard on the fishing boat was its main engine.

Cheers, Pete I watched the vid again at a time when my B/Band was actually able to screen it with only a couple of breaks & I agree with you. The first time I tried watching it I only managed to see about 1/3 f it before it crashed completely. Err, the vdeo, not the boat! :D

What happened to the video editing!!! Jumps back and forwards in time!

Don't think so.

The other boats that you see, stopped, are not the runaway boat.

The ILB helmsman dropped some of his crew off on one of these boats so he had more speed to chase the fishing boat.

As another poster has said, it looks like the floating ropes trick didn't work, so they had to put a crewman aboard.

Not crew as far as I could see, just the rescued fisherman. He also visited another fishing boat a couple of times to borrow lines and a float to try to snag the runaway.

Puzzled why people find the video so hard to understand.

That can depend on the speed of one's internet link. My "broadband" can run at 1/3 Mb some days, other days it might reach 1Mb sometimes. Others can be far worse off, or using tiny screened smartphones.

If you have an 8Mb link & a 21" desktop screen then it could be a tad clearer to see what is happening. :D

Surely though you can leave it to buffer until it has enough to play through smoothly?

Not sure what speed my Internet connection is, but the monitor is 24" thank you very much :D

I don't think I have enough life span left for that ;) I generally just ignore videos as not worth clicking on.
