Drifted up to Bucklers Hard on Wednesday and all the old Piles have gone..In their place is a dirty great long pontoon.

Its not actually in use yet, and the pile driver is still alongside.

I'll quite miss lassooing the old piles, bit like Yarmouth I suppose easier and more convenient, but somehow not as much fun.

Mind you I only ever go there midweek!

Probably means that they will get more boats in

Au contraire, ANY boats would be an improvement according to HM. Reason given that fiddling with strings was too difficult and frightened the boaters, hence pontoon.

Bet you a water taxi comes next. Any chance of improvements to the grub ashore?

Re: Bucklers Hard = yesterday\'s news

The HM has been talking about a water taxi since I met him in March. Initially, they had somebody lined up to run it on their own, but backed out. HM is planning to buy a boat and run it 'in house' next year - or so he says.

I wish they would put pontoons on our piles downstream - I might be tempted to stay another year instead of shelling out for Lymington Yacht Haven!

No idea how it works on Lord Montague's patch, but on the 'amble you and your neighbour can agree to put a pontoon between 'your' piles. Not sure if the HM's OK is necessary, and there are self-policed rules about security of said pontoon and mooring chains, but it's really just a question of collecting enough unused beer vouchers.

Re: Bucklers Hard = yesterday\'s news

I'm pretty sure his Lordship would need to be consulted, although I would be reluctant to fund my own pontoon or even half of it. Have had a different neighbour and they tend to be transient as most are looking for somewhere better, I fink

Anyway, I wander how many beer tokens would be required - could I have yours if you are not using them. I;ve got a stack of Tescos Computers For Schools vouchers as swaps. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Guess this'll mean a price increase. Beaulieu piles were one of the cheaper places to moor and they included showers.

Save my fuel though, no longer need to go round and round trying to thread stern line then creep up to thread bow line and missing - LOL.

Certainly miss boat handling practice !!

Yes trying to get on at the top of spring tide was interesting!

I asked what the price was going to be and they said they did'nt know...prob stay the same to 07 and add another 20% for next year :-(

I did mention to the office that most folks would rather they put the investment into the dingy pontoon...the most dangerous part of my sailing year is getting ashore over 3 'layers' of crap hard tenders of dubious stability.
As I was attempting the above so was "uncle" Tom Cunliffe...he was fairly vocal about peoples tender mooring tecniques ie 6 inch painters and oars left in rollocks.

All best Nick

Apparently not. Currently they are unchanged at about half the marina rate, with only a 3-4% increase likely for 2008.
