Brydon boy compatibility with RM69?

I'm very happy with the Brydon Boy toilet on my Dehler 34 with one exception - it sprays sea water out of the top of the pump handle shaft when flushing. I have changed the top seal in the pump housing but it hasn't improved the situation.

While searching for a solution I have noticed that the RM69 toilet is visually identical to my Brydon Boy - same three screw mounting on the bottom of the pump tube, same six screws holding the flush/dry bowl switch assembly together. So apparently all good.

However, before I invest in improving toilet performance I would like to get some confidence that a new RM69 pump assembly would fit my existing toilet.

Has anyone experience of updating a Brydon Boy with RM69 parts? More importantly, was it a success?

Thanks,
Adrian

I updated the toilet pumps on both of my Dehler 34s (an '88 and a '91) for the same reason as you. This was quite a few years ago, but IIRC, the replacements were Jabsco, which just screwed into place on the toilet base.

If you contact Jabsco here: www.jabscoshop.com they have a compatability 'spare parts finder'.

Hope this helps

Not sure I would bother. When I last had this sort of problem it was very little money more to buy the complete boig than to buy the spare parts. We used the redundant bowl as a flowerpot in the garden :)

We had a Brydon boy that i serviced with an RM 69 kit, I cant remember if there was an O ring where the pump shaft went into the body, presumably where yours is squirting out.
Hope that helps

Definitely a lip seal...

The RM69, was an exact copy of the Brydon Boy. When I worked at Jabsco, we did test fitting parts from one toilet to the other, and they fitted exactly....

However, as a previous poster has stated, the difference in the price of spares, and a whole new toilet, can be a bit of a no brainer...

If you can go to a show, I have seen complete modern toilets, for the same price as a service kit....

Good Luck..

The shaft seal on the Brydon Boy is a standard IMPERIAL size lip seal available for pence from any bearing supplier. (the shaft is 3/8inch .... I can look up the full seal identification if you need it). When fitting a new one you will probably need to use some liquid sealant to ensure it stays put in the housing.

You will almost certainly find the hole/upstand in the housing has enlarged somewhat, resulting in 'slop' which will cause even a new seal to wear relatively quickly. The ideal is to fit a (brass?) bush into the housing (although I haven't got around to it yet).

Edit: Do make sure you fit the seal the correct way around. So many people fit seals the wrong way! ('open' end of seal faces the liquid you want to keep in).

Vic,
Would be great if you could post the specs of the lip seal required for the Brydon Boy head. I measured the shaft on mine which seems to be 5/16" and OD on old seal is 11/16". I guess this is a Single Lip Seal with spring for reinforcement?

RM69 seals - do you want these?

I have a £45.00 box of genuine RM69 rubber seals/washers, Bought, opened, looked at, repacked; I bought a complete new bog so these seals are available, unpacked but never used in the thunderbox. So....how do I charge for them and what will you pay? Strangely enough altho' I'm resident in Spain where postage is extremely costly, I brought them over to the UK for my lad to stick on ebay......soooooooo......minimal postage penalty to me. If you will put 10 or 15 squids in a charity box I'll send them to you. I've had more than my money's worth out of this forum, I'm happy to put something back. private mail me yr details.
