We had a very pleasant trip to Bruges last Thursday.Left Ramsgate 8 a.m. for Zebrugge. Force 4-5 very lumpy average speed 19.1 knots. 67 miles to Zebrugge. from Ramsgate. Arrived at 11.45a.m. Followed British registered ship The Pilgrim straight into lock with another ship already pinned down by two tugs. Had tea and pre made sandwiches in lock.Approx 45 minutes in lock to move about 3ft. Then the lon haul through the canals up to Bruge. Various swinging bridges & 2 locks later we arrived where we met up with fellow forumite Mr. Steward whom had arrived with 2 other boats the day before.Very pleasant place Bruge hadn`t been before. Left Saturday along the canals for Ostende as force 6 winds made the sea trip undesirable. About 5 hours along canals into small marina in ostende lovely meal in yacht club off again next morning for Neiwport we were almost touching the bottom when entering the marina refuelled 25p per litre and moored up Dinner in yacht club excellent Steak actually managed to get a perfect blue one.
Left next morning for Ramsgate at low water bade farewell to D.Absolute Princess 470 who made for Burnham (Great name that) Started out beautifully calm half way across built to 15 knot wind still managed 23 knots not far behind Odysea Princess 46 Sports and behind us IL Flouzy Princess 37. Great trip well organised by Mr. Steward. Well done mate. People who actually go out. I thought we were the only ones. Talking about Amsterdam next

We intend to be in Amsterdam in July. When are you going? Should we look out for you?

Re: What about?

The outrageous amounts of food & consumed by all?

D'Absolute did manage to go aground in Bruges.

Or the fact that no one of the Belgian persuasion asked us to pay for a canal licence?

Or even one of our party eating the bill at the Nieuwpoort Yacht club? Sadly, it turned out to be the only copy and the proprietor had no idea what we owed ( 375 euros). When he was offered 100 as a joke he got a bit excited and threatened to call the politzei !! We managed to pour oil on his troubled waters however.

And finally, who can forget a certain someone having to do a forfeit? Something about running up and down the Flandria Yacht club pontoon shouting ' I'm a furry hamster' at the top of their voice ?

It was a good trip.
