Bruce Roberts Yachts

Are there any owners sailors or bilders of Bruce Roberts Yachts on the Forum?

Reason I ask is that having recently become the owner of a BR Mauritius 43 I find that, as far as I can gather, there is no Owners Group or any point of contact for owners available on the web.

Anyway I started making some enquiries on the YBW Liveaboard link, and to save repeating it all the link to that thread is at:

Also I have set up a 'Yahoo Group' for the BR Yachts which I found pretty effective with my last boat for bringing 'Halberdier' owners together, and is still doing good service 10 years after its inception.

I own a Bruce Roberts Norwest 34, I had the same problem as you when I first bought her couldn't find any information relating to BR yachts apart from the BR site which is great if you want to build one but not a lot of use for anything else.

I wish you well with your project. We have a Nor'West 34 (BR34) which is a shockingly strong and stable boat that can take a blow ideal for our west coast imho. Quite fast into wind, but, unless we use a spinnaker, slightly sluggish in light downwinds. Not sure I can see the point of joining the group though, other than being part of a global sailing elite. ;-)

So you're probably not so far from me them..my BR is in Kilmelford Yacht Haven where she will remain until next year when I will (hope!) to bring her back down to the Solent.

With regard to 'Groups' ...I have to tell you that I'm not a 'Clubbie' person at all, but my experience of setting up and running the Halberdiers group was a 100% success. Similar situation to the BRs, but with far less boats, none of whom had any previous contact with one another. Now, after 10 years (although most of the members joined up in the first couple of years), we have a really super Group with a good knowledge base, loads of real life experience, and many members who have become personal friends.

I'm also absolutely convinced that we have reinforced the value of our Halberiers by providing reassurance to potential purchasers that they are not buying some sort of forgotten 'one off'.

After reading some of the uninformed rowlocks about BRs especially on the US CruiserForum, and in the apparent absence of any other sites I think it might well work.

Also I reckon that BR owners may well be a bit 'different' to owners of more production line boats in so far as, many have built their own boats, or have been attracted to the uniqueness of a preowned hand built yacht. Many are long term distance cruisers or livaboards.
