Bruce anchors - specific query re origial Bruce, vs Osculati Trefoil

Price says it all. Genuine Bruce anchors have not been made for years because other designs are more effective as small boat anchors. The copies are not the same as the original as the design was patented, so they only look the same shape and are not made in the same way or out of the same material.

Another vote for the genuine Bruce. I've compared a 7.5kg Bruce alongside a 10kg copy and the dimensions were nearly the same but the copy had very rounded edges to fat flukes whereas the Bruce had sharp edges and much thinner flukes. Also, if you tap the Bruce with your knuckles or hard object, it 'rings' for quite a long time (around 20 seconds). Copies just make a dull noise with no resonance. Genuine Bruce's were made of a steel alloy which was reportedly much stronger than any of the copies. I can believe it.

Sadly, I think part of the demise of Bruce was a result of people calling all claw anchors 'Bruce' when quite clearly all the copies available at the time were inferior in construction and performance.

Genuine Bruce anchors were made in Brazil too. One of its benefits is it holds very well on short scope.

Beware of anchor fashionistas!

I spoke with Bruce when they started to produce the anchors in Brazil. They said that they had dismantled and shipped the entire production line from Europe to Brazil and that the anchors were exactly the same spec as before.

Please try to keep this thread specific to the question!

IF you were going to buy this:

http://www.piplers.co.uk/chandlery/...ati-trefoil-bruce-type-galvanised-anchor.html

but you had the option to buy an genuine Bruce Anchor for 20% more, would you go for the older, rarer genuine bruce, or the cheaper new one as per the website?

Even in the photo in the link, you can see how blunt the leading edge of the fluke is. I wouldn't touch it, and certainly not for 20%.
I have a genuine 20kg Bruce, (made in Belgium), and have every confidence in it.

What size Bruce are you looking for? I have a shiny one in my garage....... looking for a new home. Only 10kg though. But it is Stainless....
