BRUCE ANCHOR - Mounting chocks?

Having just bought a Bruce Anchor to replace a CQR I now have the problem of stowing it on deck.

I don't want to stow it hanging over the bow as my mooring is swinging and I don't want the pendant to either catch it or chafe through.

Does anyone know where to obtain chocks ar can suggest suitable, quick release methods of stowage for this awkward shape?

Hi Bob,

There is a purpose designed sort of 'block' for Bruce anchors that is bolted to the deck. The problem as I see it, is that the centre tip of the bruce is inserted down into this, which means the anchor sticks up a long way and is therefore very obtrusive.

They used to be advertised on several chandlers websites, but I assume you've already looked there. Maybe some chandlery or poster will know where, and if, they the still available.

MSS had some at Port Solent a couple of weeks back. Use one myself. I use the projectng anchor shaft as a useful place to stow a coiled mooring line. The anchor is pretty firmly held.

Hi Hylas,

I assumed Bob wanted stowage on the foredeck not adjacent to the transom. Not sure the method you suggest would be suitable there, though it's ideal for a kedge set-up as your picture shows.

I've definitely seen a cast block for foredeck mounting, but just can't remember where!!

I agree, this method is designed for a stern anchor, but I find it very elegant.. and it could be easily adpated on the foredeck..

And I apologize again.. I'm not very specialised for the Bruce anchor.. I don't have any on my own boat.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Bruce anchor always looks to me that it was designed to be hooked over the top of the pulpit, shank down. Shouldn't be too difficult to design some sort of clamp that the local stainless man can fabricate.

I have a Bruce mounted exactly as alahol2 suggests. 1 inch reinforced plastic tube - split & cable tied on the upper pushpit rail, same on lower rail. Hook anchor over top & I use one of those bungy cord thingies with two toggles to hold it firm on lower rail. Been out in some pretty rough seas & never worked loose yet.

Cost - next to nothing.

Thanks to both Alan and Dave for this idea. I've got some spare tubing and elastic cord and will try this out. If it works on my boat I will publish a pic here.
