Broom\'s

Can't believe that at long last the forum is saying that Broom are not bad boats. We live on our Ocean 42, and it seem to have the best of both worlds. Large aft cabin two showers that are nearly domestic size and a large aft deck for being outside. We looked at Princess 435 but the build quality compared to Broom wasnt even close. I also thought that the reason for the lack of aft cabin boats in the med was due to stern to mooring, which would be dificult on our boat, but with the new Brooms having steps up from the bathing platform it should be easy enough.

I love Broom and I havent even retired yet and dont wear slippers.

Dont think anyone said they were bad boats, quite good really if you like that sort of thing. It's the net curtains and paper doylies, flower pots and candlabra's that every one laughs about... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Brooms are great boats. You do see quite a number of aft cabin boats in the Med eg Grand Banks, Traders etc but Brooms are very rare or non existent in the Med. Part of the reason I think is that Brooms tend to have narrow bathing platforms so carrying a tender on the platform in order to fit a passarelle above it was'nt possible until some of the latest models came along. The other thing is that there is no dedicated sunbathing area. IMHO, the aft cabin itself is not a problem. If you anchor overnight, you wont get disturbed by the slapping of waves and the graunching of the anchor chain as you would be at the sharp end
I'll be interested to know how SamiLymington gets on with his 345 in the Med

Re: Broom\'s

As a past owner of both Broom 33 (1992) and Broom 37 (1991) I think they are very hard to beat, especially in the UK.
My 37, with 2 x VP 306hp TAMD 61B, surprised a few flash harries whilst in the Solent as they failed to catch us at around 25 to 28 knots!

Having recently changed from the 37 to a Nimbus 345 (various reasons) you certainly appreciate the sheer space of the Broom. With weight, HP and a damned good hull it is also an excellent sea boat.
