I have seen a Broom 33 type which looks like a Broom 33 but was built after production ceased in 1992. It does not have the Broom 33 decals on it.
Build quality etc all look excellent.
Can anybody shed light on this and would they be risky compared to an apparently genuine Broom 33.
Many thanks for your replies.

I know of one that was for sale on the Orwell that was a moulding from Aquafibre, who did all Broom's moulding. It had been sold to a boatbuilder who had done the fit out himself. It was all pretty good quality but not quite as 'polished' as a Broom. I would have considered it seriously because it was less money than a comparable Broom 33 but not far off in terms of build quality. Ultimately it was the size that meant that we didn't take it any further (we ended up with a forty footer).

Probably not a risk in terms of build quality as long as you check it out thoroughly (survey etc). Any risk is more likely to be on re-sale but as long as the purchase price reflects the fact that it isn't a Broom it will probably be okay as long as you accept that it might take a bit longer to sell.

Greg2 thanks for your very helpful reply. We were a bit rattled as we had not come across this sort of thing before but what you say makes sense. We will get a surveyor preferably one that knows Brooms.

It would have to be much cheaper before I dipped my toe into that arena

It might be as good, maybe better, you never know.
Met a couple few years back, they had a Broom 10/70 only it wasn't,it had been fitted out by Freddie Booker, wow what a stunner.

I have noticed a Broom 33 "Type" for sale with a dealer and had wondered what it was all about. Certainly the price was a little lower than a Broom 33 but how much less would be in order ? I assume Aquafibre made the hull and they have certainly sold to a number of companies (Haines, Rosebank and others) in the past. I confess I was interested but it's not so much the known unknowns as the unknown unknowns !
