Bronze Ring Nails

Silicon bronze ring-barb nails.

Most good chandlers will have them (sold loose by weight), and a lot of the not so good ones will have them in over-priced pre-packs.

If you've never seen a ring-barb (mild steel version is commonly used in roof construction and the like) they are flat headed nails with parallel shanks which have rings of projecting barbs along their length.

They are also called "gripfast" nails, Anglia stainless steel, in suffolk do them in various sizes. They were used for all kinds of things, including nailing planking on some boats, but remember, once they are in, they stay in! You will destroy the piece of timber, before they come out!

trug

I came across these in the parts list for building a Trug dinghy PBO 277. Does anyone know what they are?

Hi Tony.

A little off topic! But you mention the trug dingy. Do you know if plans for this boat are still available, and if so from where.

Regarding Gripfast nails. They work well until you want to remove them!

Those shown are 65mm o/a length, and 15gm/pair. I have no intention of counting all those in my polytunnel boatshed. I'd fall asleep.....

:)

Edit: having peered at the Classic Marine site indicated, it would suggest I have several hundred pounds worth of beer tokens lying around in various cardboard boxes, in my polytunnel.

Hmmmm! That's worth more than my pension fund....
