Bronze CQR nicking?

Our local pub has a bronze CQR anchor hnging from the ceiling, is it worth nicking?

These bronze anchors were made for when it was desired to have no magnetic interference. Special Navy jobs that were a bit hush hush or possibly for boats doing magnetometer surveys. Unless one's hobby is collecting magnetic mines there doesn't seem to be much point. (no pun intended as CQRs do have a point!) You wouldn't be related to the blokes who stole the bronze plaques from Plymouth war memorial would you?

Nooooo, not unless you want to swallow the anchor at the Big House, although as they are mostly full up you might just get off with a Police Caution. That was what the burglar who did my shed got as telling people off doesn't cost anything!

In any case sensible pubs have their brass-ware nailed down with STAPLES not hooks in order to make life more difficult for Terry Leaf.

Bronze stuff was also used when sparks would have been a Very Bad Idea. I have a set of bronze hand drill, bronze hammer and bronze pincers which my father bought surplus from Bill's Tool Store in Glasgow.

As a matter of interest, did they have non-magnetic bronze chain to go with the anchor?

it might be beryllium alloy. IIRC there were some special beryllium tools made for sorting out magnetic mines and similar nasties.

Very covet-worthy !

There is a foundry in USA which advertises in Wooden Boat magazine. They offer a bronze herreshof design fisherman type anchor.

I would steal one as the price is such that I could never bear to drop one over the side of a boat, even with back-up rodes attached.
