A friend of mine recently fell in love with a boat that he saw at a reputable and quite large broker (name I will withhold as I don't want to get into any 'discussions' with them).
He was going to spend £7000 on the boat. He had had not even thought about a survey as he is new to boating (as he told the broker), the broker had not suggested it AND as the broker had 'agreed ' to a price reduction from the asking price of £7950 (in fact it was not at all clear that was not buying the boat FROM the broker).
Well, at my suggestion he got a survey which discovered that the boat was riddled with osmosis.
So far not a very happy tale but the thing that I find MOST unacceptable is that no price reduction at all would be given (apparently the £950 agreed BEFORE the osmosis came to light was more than generous) boat is STILL being advertised at the original price . The only reason can be that they are quite happy to waiting for some unsuspecting person to fall into the trap than to run an honest business.
Moral - DON'T TRUST ANYONE, A FANCY BOATYARD IS NO GUARANTEE OF HONESTY
