All plans in place to collect new (to me) boat this bank holiday weekend..... broker now informs me that despite me going significantly out of my way to ensure that my deposit cheques reached them in plenty of time to clear, that they didn't bank them for 2 1/2 days, and there now isn't enough time for them to clear, and still have time for funds to be released to clear previous mortgage held by current owner, and then release my borrowings in time......

To say I am spitting feathers is an understatement.

They have gone away to think about how they might be able to sort it, with a huge, lit firework stuffed right up their nether regions....

I'll be naming and shaming unless they sort it.

Sorry to here this Neil.

For twenty quid I wouldn't pick a fight, no matter how pissed off I was. I'd pay that to get the boat ready and ask them to bung in a couple of Benny fleeces, or such like. Assuming this broker has access to such items.

The longer you argue, the less chance you have of collecting at Easter.

Agreed....

The problem here is simply that they left paying the cheques in so late, that someone is going to have to take a risk.... as they won't be cleared in time.... i'm not sure if they are spinning me a line or not yet, but they don't seem to believe that a fast clearance is possible for my cheques at this stage.....

I certainly won't be getting out of my pram for the sake of £20... at least not before things have sorted themselves anyway....

exploring this, its actually a bit of a nonsense..... the fast clearance system only deposits the funds (for interest and withdrawal purposes) into the recipient account the same day (rather than after 3 days).... the back office clearance system still takes the full 5 days, and at any point in that 5 days, the process can be halted, through a cheque stop or lack of funds....leaving the recipient out of pocket...

The only way to guarantee payment is via an automated transfer using CHAPS, which isn't possible now, as the funds no longer exist in my accounts, and cancelling the cheques wouldn't put it back quickly enough..... and besides, it would be extremely difficult for me to physically get to the appropriate financial instutute to arrange a CHAPS transfer anyway....

believe me, i've explored all those options.....

Damm - I was going to suggest the CHAPS method - as that is what we had to use. I would suggest a call to the current owner - as I wouldn't think he'd want to miss out on the sail for the sake of a day - doesn't it just become and extended test sail?

Or .... Can a Credit Card be of assistance?

Search their web for Ref: 19370 -> Morgana /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Professional? Canasta? I don't ffff-ing think so!

Really sorry to hear of your experience. I guess we have all been treated this poorly at some stage, and it is no help knowing that it will resolve itself although not at the rate that it should.
Others have offered all of the advice so nothing to add there. Naming and shaming will not help you but may well one of us in the future.

I can only hope that a happy future with your boat will more than compensate for the immediate past (even though you chose to ignore my choice of name!)

Not good news Neil but as Mr Duck says , surely some leeway is possible if you can prove to the current owner and the idiot , sorry , broker , that the money has left your account and it's all the idiots fault . Maybe he'll be willing to hand over the keys even if not the papers if you explain the situation

Some progress can be reported...... but its through my own actions, not the brokers......

hopefully, as T25 reports, we can now get to a stage where the boat can be taken away to plan, albeit, a little delay in the provision of Bill of Sale.....

Which I can live with....

Although, I would prefer them to resolve things their end, rather than me have to further complicate the financial transaction....

Also, one final point, in the interests of fairness..... the individual with whom I am dealing, is still sat at his desk, trying to resolve this, even though he should have finished at 17h30.... so at least one person cares about customers....
