broken mast

Broken mast

I have spliced my mast in the past although it was only a temporary fix. (Until a replacement was available.)
You need to make sure the mast is not bent. We need to ask why it broke of course.
Cut the ends of the mast off square. A piece of similar mast is best for the sleeve as it is of the same material thickness and heat treatment. You will need however to cut a lot of the Al mast piece away around the track area so that the piece can be compressed to slide inside the mast parts. Pop rivets and possibly epoxy will hold it together. Or you could add a sleeve on the outside or both. I did just inside.

The result will be a shorter mast which will mean relocation of spreaders and adjusting the lengths of stays. Either lower the gooseneck or recut the mainsail.
The middle of the mast is perhaps the least stressed being well supported by the intermediate stays and spreaders. So not so much concern although I guess one would never feel really confident in a blow. good luck olewill
