Broken fuel tap on Mariner 4 two-stroke outboard

My fuel-tap knob no longer works, it moves but doesn't turn the linkage-rod that goes back to the actual tap. The tap itself works fine if I take the cover off and turn it. My problem is that I can't see an obvious way to dismantle and inspect it and I don't want to risk breaking it . Can anyone advise, please?

Many thanks for the diagram and link. It seems that what I need is obsolete and if it were not that site can't export outside USA. The diagram will help me investigate but I suspect the solution will probably Araldite!

Yes theres some reason why parts cannot be exported from the USA. Just a restriction placed on agents by Merc / Mariner AFAIK

I think you will find that model is a rebadged Yamaha http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Outboard/1984/4SN/COWLING FUEL/parts.html

Either way armed with the part numbers you may find that a UK agent for Mariner or Yamaha can help you. Or even a CI agent ?

Ron Hale Marine at Portsmouth would be worth a try, they used to sell and almost certainly still do service quite a lot of these engines ( as VicS says a rebadged very slightly tweaked Yamaha ).

That's a GREAT help, thanks as the Yamaha parts are still available and yes, I'll be able to get them locally, once I've stripped it out and found what's broken :)

I don't know to which part you refer but I had a problem with the pump on my 2 stroke a/c Yam and a local machine shop, the ever wonderful Jon Street, made me a bit for a fiver. Good luck
