I seem to suffer from soft and weak fingernails. Despite keeping my nails short, I seem to end up breaking a nail every time I get on a boat. Perhaps some of our posters with a more feminine side (jimi?) could suggest what I could do to prevent these uncomfortable breakages.

I tried dipping my finger tips in epoxy once, but just ended up with a winch handle and a shackle spanner glued to myself.

Get a thing called a French Manicure with stuck on nails! i think they cost a fair bit, therefore you'd be so scared of breaking a nail you'd take extra care. The alternative is to wear a big pair mittens or boxing gloves.

That's a brilliant idea. Having lost my first ever winch handle over the side during the RTI, in future I'm going to glue it to my hand for the weekend.

If I go for a plastic one, should I get blue to match my non-oilie jacket, or red in case I ever wear my lifejacket?

<hr width=100% size=1>my opinion is complete rubbish, probably.
