Just trying to decide on where to stay tomorrow night.

Anyone got an opinion. At the moment, Brixham has it by a nose

Where are you going from/to and in what?

The crazy golf is better in Torquay. Open til 10pm according to google.

The tat in Paignton is better. You could buy a fake set of oakleys and a Rolex, and maybe get a teddy out of the grabbing machine in the arcade.

Brixham any day... Torquay is tacky! Watch out, the Mdl marina is mega pricey! Stay on the town pontoon instead, although there is no power I think...

Wow you're right! This looks like it might be at least as good as Torquay's Jungle Journey Adventure Golf and open til 11pm:

Plus one could get a steam train to Dartmouth to see the Wurzles: what's not to like?

Well...possibly drying out but maybe the OP has something that easily takes the ground (hence question in previous post)

Take this seriously from someone who's been to both, one time I spent a happy week in Brixham waiting for a chum to turn up, I wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes in Torquay without knuckle dusters and a bazooka ! :)

Part 1 is the best,a true classic having been there in earlier happier days - I'd take the police propaganda stuff with a huge pinch of salt, but it's a fact Torquay is not a place to stroll around late at night.

That's a bit unfair.....after all, they only wanted to take a closer look at a legendary Anderson 22 :)

You haven't been there have you ? I am of course used to hordes of adoring groupies wanting to sleep with me for my autograph - but I draw the line at Torquay which is more like the original proper Mad Max crossed with The Walking Dead.

Brixham is the best destination if heading West, and the best hopping off point if heading East.

If going East across Lyme Bay I'd strongly suggest one goes 6 miles off the Portland lighthouse - it will still be uncormftable in anyything but a calm* - then forget Weymouth and Portland, go for Studland anchorage to rest or if keen South Deep in Poole Harbour.

* The film sequences of ' The Cruel Sea ' with the corvette half out of the water were filmed off Portland.

The place puts the willies up me, and is to be taken seriously !

Don't forget the overalls off Anvil Point if going to Swanage

I've been around Portland Bill when it was a flat calm and my crew said ' what's all the fuss about ?

I have also been there in F6 growing to 8, " beam me up Scottie " :)

Taking my new Beneteau (sadly they'd sold out of Anderson 22s) from Hamble to north Wales we did Portland to Brixham and, fortunately, the race was a pussy cat. Quite liked Brixham, by the way. We arrived around midnight and the marina duty manager came out in a tender to lead us through the maze to a berth.
