Any suggestions on a good pilot book for Brittany? Actually I would potentially need all of the Bay of Biscay coast up to Cherbourg, but I am first looking at Lorient and up and down the coat.

Bloc is very good but very dry , it has excellent tides in a simle way to follow. I use bloc in addition to a cruising guide it is also in English as well as french and has many other details in Comparable to Reads .

By Dry it tells you how to get in from a Navigation point of view but not whether its worth going there.

Most of the pilotage books start or stop at Brest.

The bay of biscay one i find the most interesting West France cruising companion by Featherstone which L'Aberwarch to St jean de Luz and the canal du midi.

For Cherbourg to Brest i use The RCN book and Cumberlidge at least the latter tell you whether its worthwhile going there and where the good restaurants are.

For restaurant details look at the GYC website ( GUernsey Yacht Club)

Two possible options

If its just a pilot book the the Imray North Biscay will do the job - see here:

Another option is the BLOC Livre a Bord which although a French publication, it is also in English. It is more of an almanac but has all the info you need - see here:

Hope this helps

I've just bought the pilot book and it seems a really good publication. The Bloc Marine is a must if only for the tidal data but although there is much English the translations are often summarised and several ports are not even mentioned.
