Wish I still had my old job at Seagull - would have loved to try and take the Chinese manufacturers to court!

Actually there are probably more Seagull fanatics down under than here. Splendid collection in a museum in Wanaka, right up in the Southern Alps in New Zealand.

I think "try" is very much the operative word. I don't think the Chinese legal system would be particularly interested in punishing one of their own companies for your benefit.

Exactly! That's why I made the remark. In my time I had to deal with Argentinians making perfect copies of the real thing. in fact not perfect, infinitely better. Had no luck stopping them either.

I remember selling a dodgy Suzuki in order to buy a Seagull, harping back to my youth on Strangford Lough. I spent most of the time trying to keep it running or getting it to start, or to stop fuel leaking, or ... or....

I now use a Tohatsu 2hp which started on the first pull after 2 years of non-activity.

OTOH when the SG was working, the noise brought back memories!
