British Waterways and the Budget

I think this looks like great news. Firstly, because I think the 'third sector' approach will bring more stability then always relying on grant in aid - subject, as it is, to other political priorities. Secondly, I think its almost beyond belief that with all the pressures on the Government at the moment, they have decided to leave the BW property portfolio in the hands of BW (always assuming the final 'charity locked' arrangements are appropriate).

Interesting to see the IWA response includes the idea that the third sector body should eventually include the EA navigations - and any currently privately-owned waterways which want to join in. Presumably, the Chelmer and Blackwater would be first in the queue!
