Just been over to Marchwood today to the British Powerboat Trust only to find out that it is now closed, I spoke with one of the organisers and was told that they had to move out as the land and buildings had been sold for re-development. I find it sad that all that history has got to go, my grandfather and many others served on these wonderful beasts during the war and I am sure he would be turning in his grave if he knew that the need for modern "lifestyle" living in waterfront properties in more important than our maritime history. These boats were instrumental in providing us with the freedom that we enjoy today, we need to look after it and be proud.

I visited the trust last year as I was thinking of taking on a restoration...I have since had a reality check and realise, unfortunately, there is no way I have time to take on such a project but I still have a strong interest in wooden boat construction. I've heard rumblings that the trust may be moving to Poole which, if it happens, will be good news for me as it will be on my doorstep and maybe I could spend some time helping them out with some restoration work. Anyway lets hope they manage to stay afloat so to speak.....Iain

A couple of the boats are at Bucklers Hard. Unless she's been sold, MGB 81 is moored just off the dinghy park, and there is also a small launch a bit further down river, just below the village High Street. Both belong to Phil Clabburn, I think.

Surely something can be done? We can do it for military aircraft, and every Garrison Town has a military museum of some sort.

I know its crazy, the guy I spoke to yesterday, Richard said that they could not find a new location so all the engines and other gear was being returned to their owners ans the rest will be sold off. The only thing that can stop it is if someone wants to give them a home. There must be someone out there who can help.
