Would like to take Joanne's Grandfather there who served on MTBs during WW2.

Anybody been and is it worth the trip?

Thanks

Nick

A couple of years ago a bunch of us (12) chartered HSL102 for the day and had an absolutely fantastic time. The guy who runs it all Phil Clabburn (IIRC) is a great bloke and seemed particularly at home with a bunch of mobo'ers onboard for the day. We had a blat out to the needles and Alum bay for lunch and a pose around Cowes before returning. Cruising down the solent at 30kts in an immaculately restored wooden boat was sublime. Deciding that we needed to overtake other mobo traffic and throttling up all three diesels gave huge grin factor. It wasn't the cheapest day out but ranks as probably the best boating day I've had on the Solent.

We only had a brief trip around the sheds at Marchwood as our day was about being on the water but it was all fascinating stuff. Got a little ride in RAF206 too.

Not sure whether they have their new visitor centre as yet but know they do have a MTB to look over. On the basis of our experience I'd recommend it!

We had a tour round a few years ago. I very much enjoyed it and would imagine anyone with wartime links would enjoy it.

To be honest it did not take a lot of time, may be 2 hours, but I suspect there may be more to see now.
