Enquiry for readership, the Britannia Bridge in North Wales crossing the Menai Strait its construction has a central tower or (pier) built on the Britannia rock in the centre of the tidal channel. I’ve read somewhere maybe online or magazine or books that this rock was named Britannia after a ship possibly a royal yacht ran aground there years before the bridge was constructed. The rock does actually have a welsh name. Can any reader shed light on whether this story is true and any history relating to this ship whether it was a royal yacht and what eventually happened to it.
