Just spoke to the dockmaster - apparently there has been an accident at some point involving the bridge and it can only be swung by contractors. Our plans to go up tomorrow now scuppered - not enough notice to swing the bridge :-(

Thanks very much for posting this. Do you know how long it may last? I think I heard recently that the bridge was closed to traffic.

No he didn't say, they can still open it but they need to get contractors in to do it. I called tonight at about 9 and that was not enough time to open tomorrow morning, he suggested we come on Thursday so I shall call him again in the morning to book it. If I get any more info I'll post it here

Apparently the work will be going on for weeks, they just need notice to open the bridge. Looks like I will finally make it to Bristol on the 9:30 lock in tomorrow morning. Staying till the 10.00 am lock on Saturday

We are based in Bristol and have been in and out a few times lately.
As I understand it they will swing at the beginning off the tide (to exit) and at the top of the tide (for entry)

Had no problem getting in, dock master friendly and helpful. Currently parked (!) outside the Arnolfini. There is an outbound bridge swing at 9:30 on saturday morning so we will be heading back on that one

Saw you leave this morning, spent the night on BushBaby after a few beers and a Thai with a few peeps from work.
Had never been in "Shore" before - very nice (bar on the waterfront attached to Jurt's Bristol Hotel)

We went in Shore too, it was a pit stop on the way back from town. We thought if they are going to put a bar that close to the boat it would be rude not stop in it :-)

We had a nice run down the river then flat out from river mouth to Portishead to catch the 10:45 lock in. Picked some friends and then headed straight back out on the 11:30. We thought those sausages at Chepstow needed another try before they get the best sausages in the world award.

Sounds like we need to plan another run up there soon, WHO will be back soon so I am sure that he will be inching for a bit of pub grub :)
