Bristol harbour festival

Was disapointed with last years event.

The music was crap, the sound technically was crap, the weather was crap, Still ........ Can only get better!

Andy, do you remember coming on our boat? You and Lisette were both wringing wet, lets hope for better weather and a better sound man on the main stage!

YEAH, I WANT TO GO AROUND THE CORNER AWAY FROM THE CRAP MUSIC AND PEOPLE BLOWING UP THEIR BOATS.
Edit- Sorry caps lock on

whats it like these days? I went to the first ones when it was Lloyds bank and had a free pop concert for the yotties, but it seemed to deteriorate into a gathering of ditch crawlers and mobos with ghetto blasters on board. It wasnt any more a Festival of the Sea , and rather than providing free / subsidised services to get sailing boats there as an attraction for tourists, the council began to see it as something we should fully pay to attend.

Is it still like that or has it gone back to being nautical?

We will be there with our other Mobo friends, my sister in laws Barge and any Raggie that would like to partake of a small, or large aperitif. (We are not prejudice)

We intend to have a good time and enjoy what has to be the largest festival in the Bristol channel.

Although we hope to be a little further away from the concert

Guess you will be missing it

As a yottie I disassociate myself from that rude remark. Not many yachts sail up the avon or through the basin so I guess were all mobos by the time we get to the City Docks.

I first went to what was then known as the Bristol Reggatta many years ago before it had any sponsors. There were hardly any pontoons no music concerts, you made your own entertainment, every boat had a short ladder lashed to the deck for climbing ashore.

Narrowboats mobos and yachts mixed together quite happilly as I remember.

Such a shame some people insist on driving a wedge between the different groups.

No question of driving wedges - they are different hobbies / interests. Floating on water doesnt make for much common ground between mobos , raggies and ditch crawlers any more than using roads makes for a common gound between bikes, car owners and horsey types.

The Bristol festival started as a Festival of the Sea honouring the old traditions of the city. Yet the majority of boats the last time I attended were not sea going. Nothing wrong with that per se, , simply that its changed from what it was and from what personally I liked.

Fair enough,I know what your saying but Bristol really is one place that the sea meets the inland waterways, personally I enjoy the variety of boats and people that end up there.

Thank you Graham

I am glad you thought the same and that it was just not me.

Looking forward to the event, spending some time with fellow boating folk.

I also sent my form off today.
