After my long discussion with the events manager he suggested i find out what us boaty bunch would like for the future so any ideas?
How about a 'mini' boat show area?
I have already got in to the process of getting better bands etc.

Mini boat show would be great, Bristol Yacht Brokerage used to allways exhibit, and a few more visiting ships and on water displays would go down well.
Re the music, don't care who or what it is but I don't want it constantly banging away in my head ... turn the bass and the volume DOWN!
Ask yourself why the local broker no longer has any interest in the Harbour Festival, is it because it is turning into a music festival, a sort of substitute for Ashton Court? It will be a terrible shame if this is allowed to happen.
If next year is the same I will be somewhere else, as will a lot of other people, most of them harbour berth holders.

So often they feel it is necessary to any outdoor event, sea festival, regatta, whatever, - Dover Regatta was an example - and the displays near the source of this infernal din are quite deserted

We probably need a committee, properly constituted and able to make decisions quickly, no more than 18 months max. A music sub committee could then be formed and reasonablby well informed forum members can be co opted on to make decisions about what is acceptable music. quick count of how many Queen albums they own, vinyl and tape only, should sort the wheat from the crap ( have I spelt that right?).

Seriously I think it is brilliant that you have made an impression and contacted the organisers. Personally I want to see the harbour festival reflecting the history of Bristol Harbour but understand thst for many people it's a ree festival in Bristol but I think it should still engage people with the history of floating harbour. Good luck with it and glad to help if I can.

Apparently we can't have 'real' bands as we need to cater for the immigrants etc! Us yachties are the only ones that have to pay for the event.......am i missing something?

How about they cater for the people who are at the festival, rather than imigrants! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

This is a family event (At least I see it as that), where most people turn up with some relations.
All us boaters seems to have various family members turn up.

So should the music not reflect that?

Right, rant over, I am going back in my hole now.

Have a look at Neddie Seagoons post in the lounge 'Definitely not the Olympics' about tin bath racing. Perhaps that could inject some fun and games into proceedings?
