Thinking about a summer base for 3 months.

Had 3 years in Solent and thinking of a change.
I can see the advantage of Brighton for exploring the French coast from St Valerie sur Somme down to Normandy and the Cherbourg peninsular (E) for main holidays.

Where do you go for a weekend not being one for sitting in the marina?

If there's anything over a F4, you dont go anywhere and anything under you go to Littlehampton or for real adventure, Shoreham. If you're fed up with the Solent after 3 years, you'll be fed up with Brighton in 3 weeks
Why not try the West Country? Glorious scenery but the local boaters are a bit grumpy

You can visit Facom. st valery en caux, Deauville/Trouville, Hornfleur, Le Havre, the Solent (if you have to)etc etc. not to mention the great town of Brighton, with its M&S and mega shopping centres, theatres, etc, etc. Oh! yes the marina has some super shops too and restaurants coupled with the nicest marina staff and certainly the best and cleanest toilets on the south coast. Well done Premier Marinas!!

I was talking to a chap who keeps his boat at Sovereign Harbour (Eastbourne) which is where I expect to end up in a year or two since we have a beach place in Pevensey Bay. There's not too much to do locally but there is a very active cruising club which makes frequent trips to France - very accessible from this part of the south coast.
Cheers

Never was much good at spellin'
Alghero is very romantic, old city walls, lots of little trattorias on the walls with little tables overlooking the sea, violins, italian waiters, me, balmy evenings etc, you'd love it!
