Afternoon folks,

Well i'm currently looking into my winter mooring since i'll be moving from the sailing club in the next couple of weeks.

I've spoken to Brighlingsea harbour who have pontoon berths with good water available.

However, the lady tells me they don't have tender storage facilities. Is it a case that you have to bring your dinghy in the back of the car for each visit to the Harbour?

Anyone with experience of the place that can shed a little light on the situation?

cheers,

Nick

Don't take this as gospel but have seen dingys moored on the hard,
up against the wall in front of the Sailing club.
Suspect the guy to talk to would be Tony in the hut on the hard, no doubt he'd be able to tell you where you could keep a dingy.

Thanks Andrew,

Methinks a little trip to Brightlingsea may be necessary to see what's what.

'Tony in the Hut' gives me visions of an old chap that lives in a little hut but is the fountain of all knowledge. :D

if you can there are some great walk drying pontoons

there are some keeled boats there - brightlingsea mud can accommodate all hull shapes

Dylan

Hi Dylan,

Yeah I see Morgans have some pontoons which take to mud for some of the tide. My only reservation was that I quite fancied more available water so I wasn't so restricted to tide.
My boat is a bilge-keeler so it's no problem sitting on the mud

Outside the Colne YC there are dinghy racks for members. Joining is not a cheap option if like me you go to the boat to sail and don't use the club (becomes expensive to use the toilet). Might be worth talking to them for a winter let?

The Water Taxi runs at weekends until end of October. The HM offers a water taxi service at other times BUT only during his working hours. I have only had one winter afloat at B'sea and kept the inflatable in the boot of the car.

Thanks Peter for your input.

I'd rather not join another club just for dinghy parking and Toilet.
The only real reason I ask is that I have two inflatables, 1 2metre XM and another 2.6 Avon.

The XM is fine for just me and very easy to inflate etc but the Avon is much better for lugging gear around and passengers, but it weighs slightly more than a ferry and is a pain to lug around.
