After a year of work we launched at Brightlingsea last weekend. No drama to report.

What a lovely place! The harbour master, boatman and hard master are all so helpful, the pub, chippy and chandlers excellent and it's a lovely setting. Shame about the marina under construction, though.

So we got the boat in. Not sailed yet due to the weather/tides. SWMBO had a look around and calmly announced that we'd probably be getting a bigger boat next year, something like a Sabre 27 with furling headsail, slab reefing, lines led back etc. and proceeded to outline the sailing abilities, layout, in fact the full spec.

This from a woman whose previous sailing experience consists of drinking wine on a couple of charter holidays in the med.

What stikes me is this; Where does this new found knowledge come from? Is it the net? If so, is she on this forum? Is she reading this?

SWMBO, you know you you are. Stand up and be counted for the sake of what is left of my sanity!

Your partner is wise as well as knowledgeable. Just done my YM practical and both instructor and examiner commented on what a good boat the Sabre 27 is, when I mentioned I'd got one.

Regards, Mudhook

It's just a woman thing. Knowledge absorbed through the pores of the skin. We take a lot more care of our skin than do you guys.

Just don't underestimate SWMBO. She will obviously know more than you do- just all your knowledge (through living with/listening to, you) plus her own. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Glad that you launched OK Duncan, and equally glad that you like our little backwater! It has been my 'ditch' since I was 5 years old...some 45 years ago! The new development really is our 'blot on the landscape', but sadly is one that we will have to tolerate as Planning Permission was granted...how, well we have our thoughts, but those are not for airing in a public domain /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

We will not be back in the water until the end of May, so it is back over to the boat today for some more fitting out!

As for how your SWMBO found out about the Sabre 27...easy! ALL women are devious, and I would put a pound to a penny that she did her research the same way that mine did when she said that we were going to buy a Cobra 850 six years ago!!!
