[ QUOTE ]
Brian has been a great servant to the marine industry, particularly during his time as Chairman of National Boat Shows helping to plan and run the London and Southampton Boat Shows. We wish Brian well for the future."

Funny .... I read no mention of the poor customers who have lost their hard earned money ...... the staff who have lost thier jobs ... all I read was about mr. peters being a great servant to the boat industry!!!! Maybe I am going blind.

I think the only good that could come out of the mess that Mr. Peters has left behind for others to sort out is a new client account system set up by the very people who voted Mr. Peters in as chair ..... forget it, I have never seen pigs fly so why should such a thing ever happen?

At the beginning of this years 'boating season' I went to a dinner where Brian Peters was the after dinner speaker. Part of his speech focused on the loss of degradation on red diesel, his take was that it would have no effect on the UK boating industry what so ever.... Famous last words maybe?

I can just imagine that speech from him - so the chair of the BMF thinks red will make no difference - the state os his business not long after that speech removed any credibility he may have ever had.

The BMF ought to now realise that it is their interest to keep the confidence of prospective buyers. Rising interest rates, poor Summer weather and to an extent Red Diesel are all matters beyond their control but customers being too frightened to part with their money could really be the killer blow.

If they really do, as they claim, represent the marine industry then they should be making a lot of noise now about establishing Industry standard safeguards.

As things stand how many of us would be happy to trust a Marine company with our money. (be it manufacturer, dealer or broker). I know I would be very nervous.

Peters going under is quite a siesmic event for the UK marine industry, theirs was a BIG name (perhaps bigger than merited but but big nevertheless) and the shockwaves will be felt by many, particuarly those companies currently just hanging in there. Uncertain and indecisive customers are the last thing these companies need.

I suspect Peters will not be the last.

Obviously the BMF is more concerned about Peters feelings than his customers. What an appaling example of the "Old Boys Network"

It really is a crap industry isn't it.

My dear friend Gludy, I agree with you 100%. Time for some very successful people to grow up & realise that their biggest customers are , not generally fools & don't invest in Christmas clubs either. If I buy another boat then I pay a small deposit after doing credit checks, Then pay the balance when I actually touch the boat.!

I am delighted to read that he has been a great servant to the marine industry.
I would love to read about his service to Joe Public after they had "invested their money "
