Wind in South Brittany on the night of 1st to 2nd October

The night of Thursday 1st to Friday 2 is likely to be windy in South Brittany. The European model gives winds of up to 60 knots in the second part of the night on Belle Ile with gusts to nearly 100 knots. The other models are less virulent, but the wind exceeds 55 gusting knots on all models.

Strong winds expected in South Brittany during the night from Thursday 1st to Friday 2nd. The ECMWF model gives gusts at almost 100 knots on Belle-Ile.

Just one of the models showing huge gusts, might just be an anomaly, lets hope so...

Funny how nobody was banging on about - 'oh look, equinoctial gales' this year... ;)

Lets hope that those with their boat in the water has a sail tie round their foresail.

And this from the Acapella blog....

Son petit nom c'est Alex. Rafales à 98 noeuds attendues au sud de Belle-île dans la nuit de jeudi à vendredi. Les Morbihannais, triplez vos amarres, sortez tous vos pare-battages, et affalez capotes et génois.

Her little name is Alex. Gusts to 98 knots expected south of Belle-île in the night from Thursday to Friday. Morbihannais, triple your moorings, bring out all your pans, and shake condoms and genoese.

Every day a schoolday.... :giggle:

Windy as forecasted

Bay of Biscay

Explosive cyclogenesis is forecast at the end of the period. The latest models indicate that steep lapse rates at the cyclonically sheared flank of the mid-level jet will not overlap with rich moisture at low-levels. Current thinking is that a strongly-forced convective line will not develop along the cold front. However, the situation needs to be monitored, since very strong vertical wind shear can result in a severe narrow cold-frontal rain band with high winds and tornadoes in case of a sufficient overlap of moisture and lapse rates.

Uncanny, just what I was thinking :geek::LOL:

I understand this is what's called by the met-nerds 'explosive cyclogenesis' or a 'met bomb'.... the sort of thing that stuffed the '79 Fastnet Fleet.

"But.... it'll be all right in the morning, won't it?"

Nope. Brixham can expect a sustained pasting from the NE and East. 'Triplez vos amarres' indeed......
