Toying with the idea of keeping a 14m ketch there on an annual contract.

Grateful if anybody has any comments - good, bad or indifferent.

Already looked at website and gallery but there are no prices -but bound to be about one third of what I am paying now on South Coast.

Also, any other recommendations for Dutch Marinas (by the sea or Issjelmeer) ?

Thanks.

Were there just last WE.

Good facilities - pleasant bar - good food.
Everything you're likely to need.

So far, so good - now the part you don't want to hear: chances of getting your boat in there are not good. Waiting list as long as my arm. If you're lucky you can get a berth just for winter.

We berthed at Arie de Boom in Hellevoetsluis for seven years. The Dutch consider it to be expensive, so there were always berths available, although we found it very reasonable. Half an hour's motoring to the sea lock at Stellendam, or very convenient for the southern inland waterways, Oosterschelde, etc. Very nice place to be and perfectly sheltered. All services available, plus an excellent chandler.

As previously stated..super marina and facilities..but might be worth looking @ Wemeldinge, Willemstadt, Strijansas, all of which have instant access to the local waters...Breskens does mean that if you want to get off the Westerscheldte you will need to lock, either @ Vlissingen or Hanswert. HTH

Plus:
Boats are well protected
Good access to open sea
Good technical facilities

Minus
Rather posh
Most yachts are used as floating caravans: on a sunny day, the port is still full, while my port, Terneuzen, is empty
Town has nothing to offer (bombarded to ruble by the RAF at the ned of WWII)
Chandlery is the most expensive in the area

Don't know about a waiting list.

Terneuzen has all the plusses, except that the harbour is not 100% sheltered, so boats move about a bit from the wash of passing shipping. Larger boats are worse off, as they are put on the outside pontoons.

Both Terneuzen and Breskens have lousy access to public transport. Flushing is better, but the outer port is tidal, with no parking space, while the inner port is full.

Middleburg is great, but is three bridges and a lock from open water (they do work 24h/day). But great shelter, great town, so a good place to leave the boat.

Town is improving. There is now a good supermarket within 15mins walk of the marina and when I was there in the summer they seemed to be undertaking a major revamp of the square just beyond the supermarket. As already noted, the marina has good facilites and is sheltered. The fuel berth is a bit of a bu**er!

Not having a pop @ Terneuzen!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif cos had a very happy 4days there in early Sept... Great Shanty Festival..., had gone inside to get to Ghent and when we returned wind was blowing! so stayed @ wsv Newson ? at the bottom of the canal! @12e per night. super value and a great bunch of people! regards from "Highland Lass"
