Just noticed a gust of 55kts on clock! It was even windier during the night I'm sure(Largs Yacht Haven---and NOT going sailing!)

Windy is a fair description,
I spent Friday night on board, and did a few jobs needing done on Saturday. I couldn't have gone out even if I had been mad enough to want to as they shut the storm gate at Ardrossan! (thank goodness)
I left the instruments on while I was working...most of the morning was 40-45Kts + gusts. My windy averages out the gusts... but there were biggies in there.
There was a brisk trade in fenders, on account of lots of recently expired ones being found!
The first decent blow of autumn..but October can be either evil of quite pleasant..and I hope to get another week before we quit this year ;-)

We were racing Sunsail 37s off Cowes yesterday (saturday) in a fraction under 30 knots by lunchtime, with gusts a bit higher. It was quite exciting, but we only put a reef in when ordered to by the committee boat, and resented that a wee bit as we were coping fine until then, and nothing broke. Today it was down to about a force 3
We came 2nd out of 23 yachts in the competition. We are not sure whether to feel pleased or p***ed off with ourselves, for missing out on top spot.

I PLEAD GUILTY,
M'LUD!
In mitigation ,may I remind you I split my mainsail in 35kts LAST month-----shoulda reefed!
and I wasn't racing,just passing a bigger fully crewed boat.
