Having sorted the halyard problem (see below), what about ventilation. Cascade Too is a 28' wooden racer/cruiser and her original owner did not fit a single vent.
However she smells as sweet as a nut below and there is no sign of timber rot. I would like to fit ventilators before she is next launched but I am unsure which type to fit. The old dorade style no doubt give good service but will inevitably entangle ropes. What about Ventilite and their more recent solar powered fan vertions, any good?

I'm not sure that dorade vents should entangle sheets etc. - mine don't.
I have a solar panel in a vent which worked OK in British Waters. It ran for about 5 years then the panel stopped working - I suspect it took a clatter from something but can't think what - anyway it will be around £50:00 to replace the solar panel/fan unit.
