breakdown recovery/fix cover

i am planning on taking the old girl (the boat) out for two weeks in August and was wondering whether any of you have this cover and whether investing in breakdown cover is a worthwhile expense,if so which providers are the best to go with.

Breakdown

Hi

For a couple of seasons we had cover with River Canal Rescue, when the old lady had a 1960's crossflow [etrol instead of the Nanni diesel we now have. Mixed experiences depending on the problem and the engineer they sent out, one real old boaty type, did a great temporary repair on our fuel line to get us home, another had so little experience I was worried for the boat. Also waiting times vary wildly, not sure how many Engineers they emply but on one breakdown the guy was driving from Bristol on a bank holiday weekend to get to us in Maidenhead.

Better in my humble opinion to find an engineer on the Thames who will come out if you do hit a problem. Someone may be along in a while who can recommend one.

I know it wont help you now for this trip, but seriously recommend you attend a RYA Diesel Engine course in the autumn/winter.
This will enable you to be self sufficient and fix your own problems especially when murphy's law - you breakdown miles from anywhere...
If nothing else you can tell the rescue guy what is wrong so hopefully they send the right guy to sort it..
