Good magazine this month-congratulations. The article in inflatable dingy pumps should have mentioned noise levels. I rembember last year archored in a quiet bay, there were seals relaxing on the rocks, puffins doing puffin things and seaguls of many varieties nesting in every ledge of the cliff. We thought it would be nice to explore a nearby cave so connected up the Bravo pump to the zodiac, 12v battery and switched it on, what a noise. the seals dived into the water, the puffins flew away as did all the other wildlife. The noise levels were so extreme that we inflated the tender with the foot pump and waited for normality to return.
Is my pump faulty ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I use a £9.99 12v vac (from Argos). It does 95% of the job (in blow mode of course) and I just do the final topping up with the footpump. Also keep the vac below deck (with a long tube) for exactly the (noise) problem.

Even sometimes gets used for its intended purpose!

I've had various air-pumps and they are noisy !!!

The Sevlor rechargeable was not so bad - but noise was absorbed by the case I think ... The Sevlor 12v croc clip job on the boat whines like a banshee gone nuts ....

The Hurricane unit out here is not so bad ... but still not the most pleasant noise !

Have always been very pleased with the LVM inflator - its fast and not too noisy. Any high pressure areas (e.g. zodiac air deck) will need some additional pumps from the manual, but the hard work will have been done.

LVM vs Cheapo ....

Hi ... haven't we seen this before ...

The LVM machine is good - no argument .... but price is very high compared to cheapo air-pumps you can buy at markets ....

Even if you only get a few seasons use out of the cheapo ... you need to buy near 10 of them to get near to LVM price. Having had LVM gear before - that rusted out and was an inline water pump .... so I don't think name is a guarantee of longevity.

Re: LVM vs Cheapo ....

cant talk about your pump. but I have had my inflator for over 12 years. There was a bit of a problem at the end of the first year (design flaw that was changed) The company replaced it without fuss, and it hasnt hiccupped since. I used to inflate and deflate all the time but have recently changed to a rigid dinghy from the slipway.
