I have a pair of BIII outdrives on my recently acquired boat but the trim indicators on the dash are dead.

Trim works fine...and I find it odd that both gauges go wrong at the same time leading me to think something somewhere is disconnected or a fuse blown.

the drive legs were removed and serviced by a dealership as part of the deal, full service and bellows replaced too...the engineers are not local however so I have no opportunity to get them to have a look.

the back of the dash is fine...but I have no idea what to look for at the outdrive end.

I have got the big boy's book of Mercruiser legs and whilst very helpful doesn't seem to cover this issue.

Boat is a 1999 Sunseeker Superhawk 34 with Yanmars.
cheers

Stefan,

The trim indicator gubbins is on the starboard side of the outdrives.

2 inch diameter nylon cover attached with 2 X head screws and sealed with a small rubber o ring. Wiring goes from the copper sensors.

Problems can occur if they get wet and the copper corrodes. Alternatively when changing the bellows I guess someone could accidentially cut the wires......

I replaced my own, it's an easy job if you route the cables outside the bellhousing. Original route is through the bellhousing which is a big job, but can wait until winter layup when the leg will be coming off anyway.
