Hi,
does anyone have an idea how much roughly it will cost to swap my gears and shafts into a new gearbox casing?
i already have a viable case that is to replace my one that has a crack. i'm assuming its nearly the same job as if i was just replacing the seals as the housing needs to be taken apart the same.

Also id take recommendations in the south east.

Thanks

The parts and labour to rebuild a lower unit, sealed and pressure tested would be about £1200, about the same price as a new one off the shelf.

Unless you are happy to do most of the work yourself, I really wouldn't bother.

Its not just a case of swapping gears and shafts, I rebuild Mercruiser and VP drives and the gears require shimming as there is always slight machining differences between gear cases. Occasionaly you can be lucky and the tolerances are spot on, but that is rare and that is where the labour costs an get high as you build the gearbox up, check the tolerances and if they are out you have to strip it change various shims and try again, also you need a fair few special tools without which its impossible to do.
