When I return from a trip and reverse into my pontoon I get a knocking noise from my starbourd outdrive. If I select foward then ease back to neutral the noise stops. This only happens when the unit is hot. Incidentally last season when I inadvertantly switched the out drives the noise then less obvious was still on the starboard leg. The noise frequency is in sink with revs. Is this likely to be a linkage problem? Dave.

does it make any difference if you put some load on in reverse? I assume you aren't doing much more than putting it in gear whilst docking.

As all the elements acting differently in reverse are in the drive, and that's not a constant as you have explained, it is rather interesting!

Sorry going to be of no help here but I am in the process of buying a Sealine 330 (early F33) with mercruiser diesels, interested to speak to others with similar boat for advice/info.

Hope you get the problem fixed.

Simon. Its been a great boat which I have owned for about 4 years. Nothing major has gone wrong to date. mine is a late 330 rebadged F33 which is identical. Would like to upgrade to a F37. Going on a Baltic Cruise this weekend but if you would like a trip out after let me know. Dave.

Thanks Dave,

We should be getting ours on the 11th if all goeas according to the latest plan. Ours has the 180 mercs but on the sea trial went well enough to keep me happy. Would be good to meet up with another owner of such a similar boat so let me know when you are back!

If you swapped the outdrives and the noise stayed on the same side it would be a gimbal bearing. If you put the drive on a full lock you should notice it more.

I changed the gimblle bearing 2 months ago and the u/j is sound. Went down yesterday and adjusted the shift cable as I think it is chattering just out of gear. Will not know if ive sussed until I next get it well hot. Thanks all for advice. Dave.
