Where's the best place to get 3/4" half round brass strip - as close to the Isle of Wight as possible. It's for my brother, so it must be cheap /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
try the chandlery barge at bursledon google for website and phone numbers, if you've got a rib you could motor up the hamble and moor-up. alternatively you might find some in pompey dockyard, but don't try mooring up in there!
If you really mean "half round" (semicircular in cross section) then I'm stumped. If you mean keelband type stuff then classic marine. Classic marine are a jolly lot, and will tell you where to get it if they can't supply. Cheap.... .. Mmm, maybe not.
if it's dinghy keel band strip you're after I think I still have a Mirror keel band in the store. Presumably about 9 ft long? Let me know if you're interested - the Mirror is long gone.
I'm in Southampton
Mirror keel band is now supplied by Trident-UK in 4 precut peices. One for the bow to the c/b, one for the c/b to the stern and two short lengths to go either side of the c/b slot. (1pc 4'6", 1pc 4'2" and 2pcs 1'3".) However it is only 1/2" wide.
Thanks for the replies. It's for the rubbibg strake of his 32 footer, so it's obviously going to cost him (64' @ 3.72 per foot from Classic Marine /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif) . Lazy so-and-so should have done it 5 years ago before the Chinese pushed the prices up!
He will need more than 32ft per side once taking into consideration the extra needed for the curve....I learnt this lesson when I ordered the LOA mahog for my rubbing strake!
