Brancaster

Hi all,

I am looking at heading along the North Norfolk coast and looking for places to stay. I sail a long keeled boat with a 3'3 draft, I have not got round to fitting my beaching legs yet and possibly wont before I depart.

I know Wells will be able to take me, how about Brancaster, there is reference to mooring in the 'hole' on the charts, any further information would be good.

Also, how about the pit at blakeney, I assume you cant head up quayside for a night?

The quay at blakeney is possible depends on your length I have been up there stopped a couple of days ten years ago ,also anchored in the car park for 30 mins said on my v old chart scrubbing sands !Edit a bloke shouted across to me from the bank "you will be in the middle of the market stalls tomorrow, if you stay there!"

You will stay a float in the pit at Blakeney. you can reach the quay on a mid range spring tides. Its worth a reki at low water if your new to the area before you head up to the quay

I'm not sure you will stay afloat at Brancaster, I can only remember all the boats drying out.

Thornham is worth a visit you will be able to either tie along side a fishing boat or a jetty and lean your boat inwards when you dry out.

No worries, its a free un-regulated harbour so no.

The Hole in Brancaster harbour has been progressively shoaling over the years and although there are areas in the hole that would take a boat of this draught it would be difficult to find them. Without up to date local advice I would not go in there, and I had a boat there for 6 years up to 2002.
