Hi,

I appreciate tidal heights are approximate but I'm baffled by what I found yesterday - I fear this could reveal poor theoretical knowledge on my part.....

So, Bradwell Creek in my understanding has a minimum depth at CD of around 0.3m - I don't think it dries out. The Easy Tide prediction for 10am yesterday was 3.5m over CD, which implies to me I should have 3.8m. But it actually dropped to 1.7m on the way out. What am I doing wrong??? How can I ever know when I can get in or out?

Thanks

Yesterday i think low tide was about 14-35 neaps.
I went out at 15-30 & ran aground( i draw 1800) i half expected to but hey!! it was first sail of season.
I came off about 15-45 but pushed through the mud a bit
There is a hump near the second buoy in
Normally one enters on the withy side but i found more water on the buoy side
Do not forget the buoys are on long chains so when the tide is falling they get swept to the east on shallower water
Generally i see little change over last year
I suspect you had dodgy readings on the echo sounder from the very soft silt

Failure to allow for BST?
IIRC, the default time for Easytide predictions is GMT.
Just a suggestion.

Rob I hate to say the obvious but did you allow for the offset on your depth sounder? Depth of water or depth under the keel. I find it pretty predictable and 3 hours either side of HW for my 1.7 m keel is easy and 3.5 hours is possible. Look at the survey on Crossing the Thames Estuary website - there is plenty of water outside the cans.
