Before we have the forum police on my back this is a post relevent to cruising.
I read the posts on the lounge forum regarding the Norwegians eating whales and it brought to mind the time I ate a domestic cat. It was while I was bunking school and met some Sotho gentelman in the bush who kindly fed me. It was very delicious which prompted me to ask what it was we were eating the answer was KAT VLEIS (cat meat). I did not believe them untill they showed me the skin etc thrown behind a rock. I must say it looked like our neighbours missing cat but did not want to look too closley. This brings me to the point.
We are taking our dogs with us when we leave and I was just mulling over what people would eat if they are driven by hunger. I know of the canabilism in the Andes etc but that was quite a different matter as the people they ate were dead.
My question is if you were marooned or shipwrecked and driven by hunger could you kill and eat your dog. I dont think I could but might

Given that dogs were domesticated to help hunt, pooch could possibly be more valuable in the larder stakes if its tail was still wagging, no?
Mind you, I can't see our King Charles Spaniel bringing down a buffalo.
Pass the salt.

Surely eating a whole dog in one go would be a poor survival strategy. But if you're desperate enough to chow down on Fido, what's the likelihood of having a working freezer on board? Best options might be wind-drying or salting. If I were the dog, I might prefer amputation to outright death...

It would be an opportunity to find out if the dog's bollocks are all they're made out to be.

My guess is that after 24 hours with no food most of us would happy go through the dustbin and eats what ever we found in a wrapper...after 48 hours we wouldn't be to bothered about the wrapper and after 3 days nothing at all would be safe let alone the family pet.

Well that certainly goes for me.
