Hi
Ive had my bow thruster a few years and have been using the anchor windlass cables to connect to the 12v electrics. I have just installed a 12v battery in the front with the bow thruster. Is it OK to use the original wiring connected to the windlass to connect this battery to my house battery bank to keep it charged? The cable run from the house bank to this battery is about 14 metres. Ive actually taken one of my house batteries and just moved it to the bows so all my batteries are the same.

This is exactly what I have done. The bow battery and the general battery feed cable, work as a combined supply. The benefit is that the anchor windlass has a boosted supply.

You have to remember to fit a fuse/circuit breaker to protect the supply from the bow battery to the thruster, and really, another fuse/breaker to protect the windlass supply at the bow, even though you have a fuse/breaker at the general battery installation supply to the bow battery. There "should" be another fuse/breaker/isolator to protect the supply from bow battery back to the main general battery bank. Then, all cables are protected from the batteries.

Sounds complicated, but not really. The reason being, that you have to protect all the cables from the batteries.
