Help,
I want to find and fit a 'step on' bowsprit to my Beneteau Oceanis 31 as in the picture at this site. Its for a Jeanneau but exactly what I am looking for!
http://www.batsystem.se/pub_images/original/Jeanneau-49-GPT14042S.jpg
It is to help my wife get on and off the boat as she has some mobility problems and no longer finds it easy to climb from the dockside ladder onto the bow.
I have been searching the net and only found examples in France or very expensive ones in Sweden (www.batsystem.se). I saw some fitted to new Maxus yachts up to 26ft (biggest I've seen so far).
So any advice on who to go to or where to look would be great before I call Batsystem in Sweden for a quote.
Thanks
Graeme

You would probably do better getting that custom made. Such things are popular in the Baltic as boats moor bow to in boxes and the only access is over the bow. You won't find them in the UK as most marina access is from the side, or if you have an open transom from the stern. Can you not go into the berth stern first?

I made one myself -

The only really good selection of designs I've seen were from Sweden. They offer a range of designs including ones housing foldaway boarding ladders - worth continuing the internet search if only to harvest such design ideas for a custom build. However you do it, it's not going to be cheap, there isn't a large market to yield economies of scale. They are certainly a great idea for mooring bows-to ( but remember any overhand can be a hazard).

You don't say where you are based or what your typical mooring methods are - could there be other options to suit?

Rob.

Dear All,
tanks for the tips, it matches what I have been able to find out.
My boat is on a lake and we moor onto a wall bows to, so the step up onto a bow sprit is a good stable way to get onto the boat.
I will go back and look into the options again
Thanks for your help
