Hmm....lotsa criticism on the humble bowline.

'It works loose under strain'. does it???
So what do you use for the sheet attachments for that big fat driving sail up front?

the correct knot to use is a bowline for the sheets. If tied right I have never seen one come loose under strain.

By the by, just had 10 days in the Souf of Frog, with the Mistral blowin a hoolie & a huge great Drivin Genoa up front on a 35' Dufour with Bowline knots, was I wrong?
Pleeease tell me I was wrong!!!

The bleedin boat was doing over 7 knots with a crap set of sails held together with bowlines.......

a buntline hitch (topsail sheetbend)
a studding sail halyard bend

I have naked ends! Studding sail halyard bend seems secure.

I am getting nervous about the free use the word BEND.
Halyard Bend/Sheet Bend. As the tone is nautical it is
even more worrying, obvious overtones (or undertones)
of Burning Decks/Navy Cake etc. I'll stick to Bowlines!
