Hi All

My Nobel bow thruster has developed an annoying habit of cutting out when most needed . Have tested along side and checked the main contacts they seem to be ok and the motor unit is cold so cant be a thermal cutout unless faulty but would have thought that it would either work or not . When in use the engine is alway running so battery power should be ok . Any other ideas . Cant find any helpful info on Nobel on google . Are they still in exsistance ? Am I missing something basic electrical ? BTW when the boat was out of the water in the spring the prop etc was turning free enough .

Regards

Yes Nobels are still in existence.

Spares available from Aquafax in the UK.

When is it cutting out, randomly or at the end of prolonged or off and on usage ??

Your fault finding is logical, but the thruster will take out more than your alternator can put in on an instantaneous basis.

When my bow thruster played up it was the battery. The high demand means that any battery 'fault' shows up and unless the alternator puts out over 200 amps it will not keep up with demand.

My 24 volt bow thruster showed exactly similar problems. The batteries seemed to OK. However we tested the batteries by isolating them, and found that one battery dropped quickly to 11 volts, whereas the other remained at about 12.6 volts. Replaced bad battery and no more problems. If you have a 12 volt thruster, I suggest you try another battery.

Hi gents thanks for your replies. I did think that the battery may be at fault but in ignorance i thought that the alternator would cope . I think you gents may have hit the nail on the head so to speak . A new battery it is . Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks

Terry
