Bow thruster issue

Our QL bow thruster of 1997 vintage is just" whirring". I suspect that the shear pin is gone, but initially would like to know if I can remove the motor without the boat sinking! I have the manual but no information except a diagram.
Any thoughts....... only good ones ? thanks.

I can’t say for your model specifically but you remove the motor which connects to a gearbox. The boat does not sink !

Check the model, it could be a belt drive, in which case the belt could have perished and snapped. If so, it is a lift-out to sort it i’m afraid.

not so sure, I do have a QL800something (iirc) bow thruster, it is belt driven and you definitely don't need to lift the boat to swap the belt. Pretty sure you don't even need to remove the v.heavy motor either.
A pic will help.
Ιf there's a rounded plastic cover in front of the motor, undo the 4 screws and have a look.

anyway a pic of the thruster installation would help a lot.
I have collected a few PDFs for them, maybe I have something for the one you're after

Shear pin is the most likely culprit. Its not difficult--undo four allun type bolts and remove the motor(quite heavy, but manageable). The drive socket and shear pin location will then be obvious. I've done this at least half a dozen times over the last ten years.

Thanks all. It's been confirmed that you can remove the motor without the boat sinking!!!! As I think I said I have the exploded view of it which does show where the shear pin is, just didn't say it was safely accessible. If this proves to be the case, then it's a call to DB Marine to locate the parts.
Think I know what I'll be doing this week.

There is also a shear pin behind the prop. But in my case the prop had failed.

I cannot imagine the ss circa 4mm shear pin behind the prop ever failing, much easier to shread the plastic prop in front of it to pieces tbh
