Anybody fitted a bowthruster into a MF 805 . If not any ideas on what size would suit a 27 ft single screw inboard boat (without going too industrial ).Anything I shoudl look out for make wise. I have been quoted £2K all up , does this sound about right ?
I have seen a Vetus 35 kgf 12 volts for sale that sound about right for £900 , but is it Ok

Thanks

Fitted a Side Power SP40 to mine last year - the best £2,500 I've ever spent. It's remarkable ow much confidence it gives you. I've graduated from outboard powered MF625 and really couldn't get to grips with the MF805 in the marina. Fitted the bowthruster and hey presto it goes where I want it to. Even SWMBO has more confidence on the lines 'cos I'm flapping less at the helm. You'll not be disappointed. One word of warning though - you'll find fibre glass dust in every orifice. Empty the boat first and remove all the soft furnishings !! Let us know what you decide. If you want to see some pics have a look on www.seadee.co.uk

Thouth it was a joke when I bought the boat - now I wouldn't be without it on my single screw semi-displacement (8m LOA).
But must have own independent battery supply.
PM me if you want more.

Not sure I'd second the independent battery supply - maybe it's just an excuse to fleece you for more money ? Mine's wired into the cranking battery. Rationale is that I'll only use the thruster when the engine is running. Additionally I can see the voltmeter on my engine display. One season later things are still hunky dory. Agree it's belt and braces but it also adds weight to the boat and takes weight out of your wallet.

wynpar have You bought an 805 yet or are you looking at one without a thruster?
Noticed in Your Profile that You were considering one.
There is one "for sale" in My Marina in Anglesey for sale with one.
Just a thought.
However if You now own one without said Gadgett, well that's a different Story.
The 805 , like all single shafty jobs of that size, will have "prop walk" but that's No Prob.
Once the "prop walk" is mastered it can be used to Your advantage.
The thruster should only be needed to "tweek" the last bit of manouvering as You moor/ dock etc.Handy I must admit when close quarter stuff when the wind is bugging You etc.
I have a 27 footer and a tight berth.
I get in most times without the thruster and practise without it too.
So when conditions are "iffy" I use the Gadgett to save embarrasement!
Cricky! there are a couple of peeps in the Marina that use them all the time.
Hardly hear the eng when they are berthing just the howl of the thruster!
Similar boats to Yours.
As Malaprop says, a real handy Gadgett but as I said it's for tweeking, on the odd occasion.
Not being a "Smart Ar%e" and saying I am an Ace boathandler!
Cripes, mine has saved Me a few times!
As I have got used to My current single shaft boat. I find I use it less often.

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I know who you are talking about. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyway wynpar, as Rich says, there is a very nice and fully thrustered 805 for sale not far away from you.

But, no doubt the forum bow thruster expert, hlb, will be along shortly to offer you some of his valuable advice on thrustering and where to fit them.

My new boat has got thrusters front and rear. How wussy is that? Probably means I can inflict twice as much annoyance. BTW I understand that the noise from thrusters could be substantially reduced if only they were fitted better. Most just have a straight tunnel cut through the bow but if this was more ?????? (insert the water equivalent of aerodynamically) fitted both volume and irritating 'tone' of this noise can be lessened.

I think the one near me on the last last pontoon in the outer harbour has a thruster.
